Becoming a Mason
Freemasonry: making good men better. Freemasonry promotes a way of life that binds like-minded men with the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth in order to serve God, family, country, neighbor and self.
Who can join
You must be a man of good character, of the age required by the Grand Lodge of New Jersey.
You must believe in a Supreme Being. No particular religion or faith is required or excluded. All are welcome.
You should enjoy, or want to learn to enjoy, the company of men from all walks of life, faiths, backgrounds and countries. Masonry is universal in its ideals.
What to expect
Family comes first. Make sure you have the time to take part: usually two or three evenings a month at first for meetings and instruction, then at least one evening a month after that, and often more if you get involved in lodge activities.
Cost. You should be able to afford the initiation fee and annual dues without hardship to yourself or your family.
Your own free will. Come to Masonry of your own free will and accord, to improve yourself and enjoy good fellowship, not because someone pressured you or because you think it will help you get ahead in business.
2B1ASK1: how to join
Masons traditionally don't recruit, so the first step is yours: ask a Mason. If you know a member of Durand Lodge, talk to him. Otherwise, fill out the Durand Lodge No. 179 inquiry form on the Grand Lodge of New Jersey's site, and a member of the Lodge will contact you.
You're also welcome to visit us before a meeting. Durand meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month (except July and August), at the Durand Masonic Temple, 911 Richmond Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and the Lodge opens at 7:30 p.m.
